I quadri votivi del Santuario di Nostra Signora di Montenero – Riomaggiore

L’ex voto non è più presente fra i quadri votivi che si trovano al Santuario. Nell’Archivio parrocchiale di Riomaggiore, fra le carte riguardanti Montenero, è conservata una fotografia del dipinto originario, qui riprodotta, allegata a una lettera inviata l’11 settembre 1954 al parroco dall’allora Soprintendente alle Gallerie e Opere d’Arte della Liguria, Pasquale Rotondi, nella quale si sottolineava il valore artistico dell’opera.

Nel quadro si può scorgere il veliero Remello sorpreso da “un grosso temporale” nel Golfo di Guascogna l’8 febbraio 1880. L’ex voto è stato offerto, in pegno della loro devozione, da Andrea Pecunia, Ambrogio Bonanni e Lorenzo Mori, “tutti di Riomaggiore, dovendo la loro salvezza a N.S di Montenero”. In alto a sinistra, circondata da angeli, è raffigurata la Madonna, che emana una luce protettrice.

The votive offering is no longer among the votive paintings housed at the Sanctuary. In the parish archives of Riomaggiore, among the papers relating to Montenero, a photograph of the original painting is preserved, reproduced here, attached to a letter sent on September 11, 1954, to the parish priest by the then Superintendent of Galleries and Works of Art of Liguria, Pasquale Rotondi, who emphasized the artistic value of the work.

The painting depicts the sailing ship Remello caught in “a heavy storm” in the Bay of Biscay on February 8, 1880. The votive offering was offered as a pledge of their devotion by Andrea Pecunia, Ambrogio Bonanni, and Lorenzo Mori, “all from Riomaggiore, owing their salvation to Our Lady of Montenero.” At the top left, surrounded by angels, is the Madonna, emanating a protective light.
